Steel Industry as the Motor of the Economy

The steel industry is one of the most important suppliers of materials to global industry. Its innovative strength and close cooperation with the steel processing industries are a decisive basis and indispensable for the economic success of industrial sectors such as the automotive industry, mechanical and plant engineering, steel and metal processing, electrical engineering and construction.

Only state-of-the-art, highly automated and extremely reliable production facilities guarantee the economic success of steel production.

Descaling of Steel in Hot-Rolling Mills

When steel is heated in the course of rolling or heat treatment, the reaction of oxygen on the hot metal surface inevitably produces a very hard oxide layer, known as scale. This scale not only affects the appearance but also the quality of the material. For the production of high-quality hot-rolled products, it is therefore essential to remove these impurities from the surface.

In hot rolling mills, descaling equipment ensures high surface quality. During descaling, the material surfaces are sprayed with water under high pressure to blast off and completely remove the scale. The working pressure can be up to 450 bar, depending on the size of the plant. Water volumes between 200 and 700 m³ per hour are used.

Pipe and Tube Clamps for Pressurised Water Descaling

STAUFF pipe and tube clamps are used to ensure that these impressive quantities of water are safely guided through pipelines.

In addition to clamps of the Heavy Series according to DIN 3015 (Part 2), which are designed for diameters of up to 450 millimetres, in particular the Construction Series is one of the most popular type or clamps. The following versions are available:

  • KS (single version),
  • DKS (twin version),
  • KSV (single version for anchor bolt fastening) and
  • DKSV (twin version for anchor bolt fastening).

STAUFF Clamps in the Construction Series

Pipe and tube clamps from the STAUFF Construction Series allow safe and controlled fastening of industrial pipes and tubes with outer diameters between 220 mm and more than 1,000 mm.

Depending on the size, 4 or 5 plastic pipe supports made of polyamide ensure the necessary protection of the pipe and tube.

In addition, they effectively dampen vibrations and noises that can occur, for example, during pressure fluctuations and surges in the system.

The installation principle of STAUFF Clamps of the Construction Series is very simple and can be implemented on site without special tools: The pipe or tube rests on the plastic supports of the lower clamp half, a primed welded construction, which is either welded to the substrate, bolted or concreted in place. The upper profile of the clamp is then placed on top and connected to the lower half by two M30 threaded rods.

This creates maintenance-free pipe and tube fastening that can be released again at any time if required (e.g. for inspection, repair or replacement or installation of additional components in the system), ensuring a high level of operational safety for the system.
